My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lloyd takes the military course of events as the backbone for this piece of scientific research, and combines it with the political events towards the Armistice. He quotes from soldiers' journals to paint a personal picture of warfare. The devastating effects of the Spanish Flu on both sides are clearly described.
I very much appreciated the new and succesful tactic used for the Battle of Amiens. His book is a thorough yet readeable account of the heave battles that led to the final breaktrough of the Hindenburg Line and finally the Armistice.
