My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The book provides a very good overview of the events leading to the start of World War One, starting with the gruesome murder of King Alexandar and his wife in 1903. Clark uses a factual way of describing the various actions of players in each of the countries that went to war in 1914. He does not just describe the actions of a 'state', he explains the motives and characters of those individuals and the way they succeeded in influencing the affairs of their country.
I usually rate book for their degree of gruesome facts. In this book, the description of the murder in 1903 is the most gruesome part of the book; ie it received one out of five stars at my blog http://boekenoveroorlog.blogspot.nl/
